 8.MONTPELIER SQUARE. LONDON,S.W.7.

Dear Tim,

I got back to London yesterday after a hectic and rewarding visit to Duke, and my desk is groaning under the weight of accumulated correspondence. So please take this line as a token of goodwill to tell you how much I appreciated and enjoyed your hospitality.

As you realized, I got quite obsessed with the idea that the ESP possibilities of the mushroom should be thoroughly investigated. I found in Duke a mixed company of Chilean, Egyptian, Californian, etc. spirit-seekers of varying degrees of seriousness. But the three people who run the show Rhine, Mrs.Rhine, and Pratt are really outstanding people, both with regard to devotion to a heretic branch of psychology, which they pioneered, and to intellectual integrity.

Technically speaking, I now think it would be more practical to invite Rhine and Pratt for forty eight hours to Harvard, instead of the other way round. This would enable them to try the mushroom in a more congenial setting than in the rather stifling Methodist atmosphere of Duke, where I can hardly think even of a locality to try the experiment in relaxed conditions.

Greetings to all; and I hope we shall meet again in the not too distant future.

Yours ever,
Arthur Koestler
